Sooners to be without top rusher (knee) for final two games
OKLAHOMA CITY -- Oklahoma's leading rusher DeMarco Murray will miss the rest of the season with a a dislocated kneecap.
He is scheduled to have surgery this week, according to the Dallas Morning News. Murray, who also missed Oklahoma's 49-17 victory over Oklahoma State, will miss the Sooners' final two games: Saturday's Big 12 title game against No. 1 Missouri and their bowl game, too.
Murray, who has 764 yards and 13 touchdowns for the 9th-ranked Sooners, was injured while trying to recover an onside kick in the final minute of a 34-27 loss at Texas Tech. The loss knocked Oklahoma (9-2, 5-2 Big 12) out of the national championship picture.
Murray also returned two kickoffs for touchdowns this season, and his 15 total touchdowns match Adrian Peterson's school record for a freshman.
The status of Oklahoma defensive end Auston English, the Big 12 Conference's sacks leader, remains in question for the league's championship game, but his backup is expected to be healthy enough to play Saturday against Missouri.
English has missed the last three games for the ninth-ranked Sooners (10-2, 6-2) since suffering a hairline fracture in his right leg against Texas A&M. He had a pin surgically inserted two weeks ago.
"He did some jogging and running around, so we'll see," Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops said after practice Monday night.
English leads the Big 12 with 9 1/2 sacks, including 1 1/2 in Oklahoma's 41-31 win against Missouri in October. He also had a career-high nine tackles in that game, four more than he's had in any other game.
"The guy's a really good player," Stoops said. "Hopefully we get him back."
Stoops does expect to have backup Alan Davis back in time for the championship game. Davis started in place of English against Baylor and Texas Tech, but a concussion caused him to miss last week's game against Oklahoma State.
