Petrino announces coaching staff
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- The Atlanta Falcons' Mike Summers and Louisville's Reggie Johnson will follow Bobby Petrino to Arkansas, the school announced Friday.
Summers will coach the offensive line for the Razorbacks, while Johnson will coach linebackers. Petrino's staff includes: quarterbacks coach Garrick McGee from Northwestern, defensive coordinator Ellis Johnson from Mississippi State and defensive line and special teams coach Kirk Botkin from Louisiana-Monroe.
Petrino's brother, Paul Petrino, will serve as offensive coordinator. Arkansas' Tim Horton will coach running backs and tight ends, and Bobby Allen will coach the defensive line.
Absent from Petrino's staff is Arkansas defensive coordinator Reggie Herring, who coached the Razorbacks in Wednesday's Cotton Bowl loss to Missouri. Herring was hired Friday to become the defensive coordinator at Texas A&M.
Petrino was hired to replace Houston Nutt, who stepped down and became the head coach at Mississippi. He coached at Louisville before going to the Falcons.
Mark Robinson will be director of football operations, after serving as a football operations and coaching assistant at Texas A&M. Dean Campbell will leave Air Force to work as the Razorbacks' director of high school relations.
"I'm excited about the staff that we have assembled for the University of Arkansas," Petrino said. "These coaches and administrators have a wealth of experience at the highest levels of collegiate athletics and in the professional ranks."
Botkin returns to Fayetteville, where he was an all-Southeastern Conference player in 1992 and 1993. Botkin played from 1990-93 and finished with 87 receptions for 819 yards and five touchdowns. He served as linebackers and special teams coach at Louisiana-Monroe.
McGee was quarterback at Oklahoma from 1994-95. He's also been on coaching staffs at Langston (Okla.) University, Northern Iowa, the Jacksonville Jaguars, Toledo and UNLV.
Summers has coached with Petrino both at Louisville and with the Falcons. He's also worked at Oregon State, Northern Illinois, Texas A&M and Kentucky.
