Report: Clemson's Vincent suspended for violating team policy
Clemson starting middle linebacker Cortney Vincent has been suspended for the Tigers' spring practice session for violating an unspecified team policy, The State reported Sunday.
According to the report, Clemson coach Tommy Bowden said there is a possibility Vincent could be kicked off the team.
"Always disappointed when young people make bad decisions," Bowden told the newspaper.
The newspaper, citing unnamed sources, reported that the violation was not a legal matter or directly related to his December DUI arrest.
Bowden said he plans to evaluate Vincent's situation after spring practice ends, but no conditions for reinstatement have been set.
Bowden also said he could also take further action after resolution of Vincent's pending DUI charges.
Vincent, 22, was pulled over in December by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
The junior was charged with first-offense driving under the influence, detained for about eight hours and released on a $1,000 personal recognizance bond, jail officials said.
A highway patrol officer observed Vincent driving suspiciously on state Highway 93 in the city of Clemson and gave him a field sobriety test, patrol spokeswoman Lance Cpl. Kathy Hills said.
Vincent was allowed to participate in Clemson's 23-20 Chick-fil-A Bowl loss to Auburn, coming off the bench after the opening series.
