Felony charge against Penn State's Taylor is dismissed

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- The most serious charge against Penn State defensive tackle Phil Taylor has been dismissed.

Authorities say Taylor and two other former players beat up a man during a dance in October. A felony aggravated assault charge against Taylor was dismissed during a preliminary hearing Wednesday.

Taylor now faces trial on simple assault, disorderly conduct and other charges. Centre County District Attorney Michael Madeira says he would not rule out the possibility of refiling the felony charge against Taylor.

Defensive tackle Chris Baker and linebacker Navorro Bowman are awaiting trial on aggravated assault, simple assault and disorderly conduct as well as other charges.

Taylor was suspended from the team in February.
