Louisville suspends QB Simms for violation of team rules
Louisville backup quarterback Matt Simms has been suspended for the first four games of the season by coach Steve Kragthorpe for an unspecified violation of team rules, the school announced Tuesday night.
A person briefed on the matter told ESPN's Joe Schad that Matt Simms' situation is not a legal issue. Phil Simms has visited with Kragthorpe at least twice to discuss matters related to his son, the source said.
Matt Simms will be eligible to return to the team when the Cardinals play at Memphis on Oct. 10.
Meanwhile, quarterback Justin Burke has transferred to Louisville from North Carolina State. Burke, 6-foot-3 and 220 pounds, is from Lexington, Ky., where he threw a school-record 62 touchdowns as a high school senior. Burke will have two years of eligibility left.Brian Bennett covers Big East college football for ESPN.com and Joe Schad is a college football reporter for ESPN.
