Cincinnati QB Grutza breaks leg, out at least 4-5 weeks

NORMAN, Okla. -- Cincinnati quarterback Dustin Grutza is expected to miss about a month after breaking his right leg on a fourth-quarter play Saturday in which three Oklahoma players sacked him and then piled on top of him.

Bearcats coach Brian Kelly said a decision would be made Monday on whether Grutza should have surgery on his broken fibula, and he could be out four to five weeks.

Oklahoma linebacker Ryan Reynolds was also flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct on the play.

"Hopefully I can be back in three or four weeks and recover quickly," Grutza said. "We have a great medical staff that can help me do that."

Grutza had thrown for 218 yards on 19-for-29 passing with one touchdown and one interception. He also had a 1-yard touchdown run on a goal-line sneak.

Grutza moved back into the starting lineup this season after the NCAA denied Ben Mauk's appeals for another season of eligibility. Mauk is still trying to fight in court for the chance to play again.

Kelly said Tony Pike, who replaced Grutza, would start in his place.
