Daniel passes Smith as Missouri's career passing leader

COLUMBIA, Mo. -- Chase Daniel became Missouri's career passing leader in style on Saturday, hooking up on an 80-yard scoring pass to Jeremy Maclin.

With 405 yards on Saturday, Chase Daniel passed Brad Smith as Missouri's all-time leader in passing yards.

The pass came on the first play of Missouri's second possession and gave the Tigers a 14-0 lead over Nevada 2:58 into the game. Daniel hit Maclin in stride on a crossing pattern of about 10 yards, and the speedy receiver outran everyone the remaining 70 yards to the end zone.

Daniel, a finalist for the Heisman Trophy last season, needed just 52 yards entering the game to break the record set by predecessor Brad Smith. Daniel finished with 405 yards and four touchdowns in the 69-17 victory.

Smith passed for 8,799 yards in four seasons as a starter. As a freshman in 2005, Daniel was the backup for Smith. He has started the past three seasons.

Daniel's breakout 2007 season included school records of 4,306 yards and 33 touchdowns.

Smith still holds the school record for total offense with 13,088 yards. Entering Saturday's game, Daniel had an outside chance at that record, too, with 9,483 yards.
