GREENVILLE, N.C. -- East Carolina will use two quarterbacks and several freshmen on defense next week when the Pirates resume Conference USA play.

Coach Skip Holtz said Monday that Patrick Pinkney and Rob Kass will take snaps Sunday night against Central Florida. They're listed as co-starters on the depth chart after combining to beat Memphis 30-10 and snap a three-game slide.

Five freshmen were listed on the two-deep on defense because several upperclassmen are hurt.

Defensive linemen Khalif Mitchell (toe) and Marcus Hands (back), linebacker Melvin Patterson (leg) and defensive backs J.J. Millbrook (ankle) and Jerek Hewitt (shoulder) are among the banged-up Pirates.
