White's Heisman Trophy to be auctioned at Sports Museum of America
NEW YORK -- Charles White's 1979 Heisman Trophy will be among the items auctioned live on Dec. 8 at the Sports Museum of America.
Jerseys worn by Johnny Unitas, Gale Sayers, Dick Butkus and Joe Namath also will be auctioned, Mastro Auctions announced Tuesday.
A record $395,240 was paid for Minnesota halfback Bruce Smith's 1941 Heisman trophy, said Doug Allen, president of Mastro Auctions.
The Heisman Trophy winner will be announced Dec. 13 at the museum, the new home of the trophy.
Other items to be auctioned include bats, jerseys and Mickey Mantle's World Series home run ball No. 16, which broke Babe Ruth's World Series record.
