Gundy scheduled to receive bonus for 3rd bowl appearance
STILLWATER, Okla. -- Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy will receive a $400,000 bonus for getting the Cowboys to their third consecutive bowl appearance.
A clause in Gundy's contract indicates he is to receive the bonus if the Cowboys make three bowl appearances in any five-year period. Gundy coached Oklahoma State to a 34-31 victory against Alabama in the PetroSun Independence Bowl in 2006, and a 49-33 victory against Indiana last season in the Insight Bowl.
Oklahoma State, 9-3 overall (13th in the BCS standings), will face Oregon (also 9-3, 17th in the BCS) in Tuesday's Pacific Life Holiday Bowl in San Diego.
Gundy was paid $1.05 million this year. His current contract will be voided on Jan. 1, at which point he will be employed under the terms of a new, seven-year deal.
On Dec. 5, it was announced that Gundy had accepted the terms of a $15.7 million contract. Over the life of the contract, his average annual compensation will be more than $2.2 million.
