Clayton arrested; missed court date

Oklahoma linebacker Keenan Clayton became the second Sooners starter to be arrested in less than three weeks on outstanding charges over his failure to produce insurance verification.

Clayton was issued the original ticket Feb. 21, and a warrant was then issued April 8 after he did not appear before authorities to set a court appearance, Norman police officer Jennifer Newell said Thursday.

Clayton was arrested at his apartment early Tuesday morning, according to Norman police records. Newell said he was then transported to the Norman police department, where he posted a surety bond of $1,158 and was scheduled for a later municipal court date.

Clayton started all 14 games for the Sooners last season, ranking third on the team with 84 tackles and earning honorable mention All-Big 12 honors from coaches and The Associated Press. He set a school record with six forced fumbles and his nine passes broken up was the second-most by an Oklahoma linebacker in school history.

Oklahoma's off-the-field issues include tight end Jermaine Gresham's April 13 arrest on a warrant over his failure to pay a seatbelt citation. He posted bonds to comply with the citation and the warrant that was issued over his failure to appear to set a court appearance.

Last week, Oklahoma reserve offensive tackle Donald Stephenson turned himself in to police after a warrant was issued for his failure to pay an excessive speeding ticket. Stephenson then posted a $223 bond to settle the outstanding citation and the warrant.
