Boston College quarterback David Shinskie, the 25-year-old former minor league pitcher who developed a slight edge in a very blurry quarterback competition this summer, broke his rib and is listed as doubtful for Tuesday's final two-a-day practice, a school spokesman said.

Shinskie never threw a collegiate pass in a game but was becoming the Eagles' best hope at quarterback. He was injured in Sunday's scrimmage when he was tackled by defensive tackle Damik Scafe. Shinskie is listed as day-to-day.

After completing three of their four scrimmages, Boston College coach Frank Spaziani isn't any closer to naming his starting quarterback, let alone solidifying the depth chart at that position.

All four quarterbacks played in Sunday's scrimmage, and redshirt freshman Justin Tuggle went 8-for-16 for 84 yards. Junior Codi Boek completed 6-for-12 for 74 yards, while freshmen Michael Marscovetra and Shinskie both had three completions.

The Eagles, who have made back-to-back appearances in the ACC championship game the past two seasons, have been searching for a quarterback since last year's part-time starter, Dominique Davis, decided to transfer. Nobody on the roster currently has any experience.
