Kent State fifth-year senior tailback Eugene Jarvis will miss the rest of the season with a kidney injury, coach Doug Martin announced during his weekly press conference Monday.

Jarvis suffered the injury during the first half of last week's loss to Boston College. Jarvis was taken to the hospital and will remain there for about a week. He is expected to make a full recovery in 6-8 weeks. According to a report in the Cleveland Plain Dealer, Jarvis was born with just one kidney.

"I'm just really thankful that we did not put him back in the game," Martin said. "I can't say enough about our trainer Pamela Long and the job she did of holding him out. He was ready to fight us both at halftime to get back in the game."

Jarvis, who ranked fifth nationally in rushing in 2007, ranks fourth in Kent State history with 3,426 career rushing yards and is just 563 yards shy of the school's all-time record.

The university will ask the NCAA for a sixth season of eligibility.
