Loyola's Carter commits to NU
Chance Carter
Loyola Academy senior defensive end Chance Carter committed to Northwestern on Sunday night, according to his former AAU coach Mike Weinstein, who assisted in his football recruiting.
According to Weinstein, Northwestern's academics, location, football success and Wildcats coach Pat Fitzgerald all played into Carter's choice.
"Coach Fitzgerald was great," Weinstein said. "Chance really likes him. He's genuine. He's a black-and-white guy. Chance believes he's going to be there all four years."
Carter, who is 6-5, 255, was also being recruited by Boston College, California, Minnesota and Nebraska.
Carter has been one of the major factors behind Loyola's defensive success this season. The Ramblers have allowed seven points a game this season and are among the Catholic League Blue leaders with an 7-1 record.
"He's a physical presence," Loyola coach John Holecek said earlier this season. "If you're going to single-team him, he's going to be in your backfield. He's a big kid and athletic enough. He's a smart player. He's just a big body. He draws a lot of attention."
According to ESPN Scouts, Inc., "Carter moves around the defensive line in high school, and we could see him developing in college into a swing-type lineman.
"He has good size, and if he can continue to add good bulk, he could be that guy that can takes reps as a strongside end and can also slide down inside and take reps as a three-technique. He flashes the ability to come off the ball with good pad level and shoot his hands. When he does that, he can control the blocker, but needs to do that more consistently. He does need to watch his pad level. He is a physical kid and that looks like what will need to be the backbone of his game."
