Montgomery sues for defamation
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- A former tailback has sued Ohio State, claiming a falsely reported medical condition affected his ability to collect benefits later for football-related injuries.
Joe Montgomery, an Ohio State player from 1994 to 1999 who went on to play for the New York Giants, says an 11-year-old university report stating he suffered from high blood pressure and hay fever was used by the NFL to deny him workers' compensation last year.
The suit, filed in the Ohio Court of Claims, alleges he brought the error to the university's attention in July and officials refused to adjust the report.
OSU spokesman Jim Lynch said the university disagrees with the claims in the lawsuit and is working with Montgomery and his attorneys to resolve the matter.
