Michigan State running backs coach Dan Enos will be the next head coach at Central Michigan.

Enos replaces Butch Jones, who resigned last month to take the head coaching position at Cincinnati.

The 41-year-old Enos takes over a Central Michigan team that finished the season ranked (No. 23 AP) for the first time in the program's history. The Chippewas defeated Troy in the GMAC Bowl last week to finish the season 12-2. They also won their third Mid-American Conference title in the past four seasons.

Enos, a graduate of Michigan State, has served as an assistant coach for the past four seasons; this was his second season as running backs coach. Previously, he coached quarterbacks.

Enos also has been the quarterbacks coach at Western Michigan, North Dakota State, Southern Illinois and Southwest Missouri State.

Central Michigan offensive coordinator Mike Bajakian and Illinois defensive backs coach Curt Mallory also were finalists to replace Jones.
