Reports: Brandon Wegher not practicing
Iowa running back Brandon Wegher isn't practicing with the team for undisclosed reasons, according to multiple media reports.
An unnamed source tells The (Cedar Rapids) Gazette that Wegher's status with the team is unclear, although the issue isn't related to academics. An Iowa spokesman told ESPN.com earlier Tuesday that Wegher's status hasn't changed "at this time."
Wegher appeared in every game last season and made two starts for Iowa, setting a team freshman record with eight rushing touchdowns. He attended Iowa's preseason media day Friday.
The sophomore is expected to compete with Adam Robinson and Jewel Hampton for Iowa's starting running back spot. Wegher had 641 rush yards and 967 all-purpose yards last year, including 113 rush yards and a touchdown in Iowa's Orange Bowl victory against Georgia Tech.
Head coach Kirk Ferentz isn't expected to address Wegher's situation Tuesday, although a portion of practice is open to the media.
