Froman, a senior, started seven games for the Cardinals last season after transferring from junior college. He completed 60 percent of his passes for 1,354 yards and six touchdowns with five interceptions.
He was competing with fellow senior Justin Burke, an NC State transfer who started last year's opener for Louisville, and walk-on Will Stein, who started two games last year when Froman and Burke were both injured.
The Cardinals are switching to a Florida-style spread offense this year under Strong, and Froman is the most mobile of the three veteran quarterbacks.
