Gophers' Troy Stoudermire suspended

Minnesota has indefinitely suspended junior wide receiver Troy Stoudermire for conduct detrimental to the team.

Coach Tim Brewster announced Stoudermire's suspension Wednesday but didn't provide specifics about the reason for the punishment.

Stoudermire posted on his Facebook page that he is "no longer a gopher (and) ready to take my talent to a top d-1 school where I will be appreciated and respected as a player!"

A football spokesman says Stoudermire has not informed the school that he plans to leave.

Stoudermire leads Minnesota with 35 career receptions and has six catches for 114 yards and a touchdown this season. He ranks second in the Big Ten in kick return average and needs only 174 kick return yards to become the league's all-time leader.

Last season, Stoudermire caught 26 passes for 306 yards and two touchdowns. He led the team with 1,376 all-purpose yards.

Sophomore Bryant Allen will start in place of Stoudermire on Saturday against Northern Illinois.
