AMES, Iowa -- Quarterback Taylor Martinez did not start for Nebraska (No. 7 BCS, No. 9 AP) in its 31-30 overtime win against Iowa State on Saturday.

Cody Green got the start for the Cornhuskers.

Martinez sprained his right ankle last week and missed the second half of last week's win over Missouri.

Green was 7 of 12 for 79 yards and no touchdowns or interceptions. He also had nine carries for 10 yards.

Coach Bo Pelini said Thursday that Martinez has shown improvement each day since. But Pelini added that the Huskers' depth at quarterback gives them plenty of options.

Martinez has thrown for 1,161 yards for the Cornhuskers (7-1, 3-1 Big 12) this season and rushed for 886 yards and 12 scores.
