Report: Shooting outside Citrus Bowl
Saturday's game between Florida A&M and Bethune-Cookman University was nearly derailed by a pregame shooting and a hit-and-run crash just outside the Florida Citrus Bowl, the Orlando Sentinel reported.
A Florida Highway Patrol spokesman told The Sentinel that roughly 90 minutes before kickoff, a state trooper and an unidentified man were involved in a shooting.
The man fled the scene after the shooting and crashed and flipped his car after a high-speed chase with the trooper, the paper said. The injured man was then transported to a local hospital.
According to The Sentinel, at roughly 1:14 p.m. ET, a second driver struck a pedestrian at a second location before fleeing the scene.
Despite the incidents, the game started on time.
