Not guilty plea set for Mike Haywood

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- A magistrate in Indiana has entered a not guilty plea on a felony domestic violence charge for former Pittsburgh coach Mike Haywood.

Haywood walked out of the courtroom and didn't speak to reporters after his brief initial court appearance Monday. His next appearance is set for Jan. 11 in St. Joseph County Superior Court in South Bend.

Haywood faces six months to three years in prison if convicted of domestic battery in the presence of a minor. Police say Haywood was arrested Friday after a custody issue developed with a woman with whom Haywood has a child.

Haywood replaced Dave Wannstedt on Dec. 16. Pittsburgh fired Haywood on Saturday after he was released on bond.
