Virginia starting linebacker Ausar Walcott, cornerback Devin Wallace and backup center Mike Price have been suspended indefinitely for conduct detrimental to the team, the school announced on Tuesday.
"The players know the expectations I have for them as student-athletes both on and off the field, and as representatives of both the football program and the University," coach Mike London said in a prepared statement. "I am disappointed in the conduct of these individuals and the fact they chose not to represent themselves in the appropriate manner. They will not participate in any team activities while suspended, but they will continue to attend all study halls and to meet their academic requirements."
Walcott, who had moved from safety to linebacker, finished 2010 third on the team with 56 tackles and started 11 of 12 games. Wallace started seven games and had 38 tackles, but played more because of injuries. Price played in two games. None of them will be able to work out or practice with the team until the suspension is lifted.
Virginia has 10 starters back on defense and returns its starting center.
