Four Rice players arrested
HOUSTON -- Four Rice University football players are free on bond after their arrests by campus police in separate cases this week.
Online records show defensive end Cody Bauer and offensive lineman Cade Shaw were arrested Saturday and charged with felony firearms possession in a prohibited place -- their on-campus apartments. Both are free on $5,000 bond.
Cornerbacks Kevin Gaddis and Phillip Gaines were arrested Monday on misdemeanor marijuana possession charges. Gaddis also is charged with misdemeanor theft. He's free on $1,000 bond, while Gaines posted $500 bond for his release.
Online records show no attorneys for the four, and school spokesman B.J. Almond tells the Houston Chronicle that Rice is providing no other information because the university is private. Rice athletic director Rick Greenspan said he was investigating.
