The Bottom 10's inspirational thought of the week:

I've been there before
And I'll try it again
But any fool knows
That there's no way to win
Here we go again
She'll break my heart again
I'll play the part again

-- Ray Charles' "Here We Go Again"

Well, the Bottom 10 Guy finally got around to seeing "Ray" last week, so selecting this week's theme was pretty easy. Ray Charles combined blues and gospel to become a pioneer in soul music. And let's face it, the teams in the Bottom 10 are feeling the blues and could use a little gospel influence.

That is especially true for Central Florida, Western Michigan, Washington and Tulsa. The Golden Knights, Broncos, Huskies and Golden Hurricane all lost again last week to remain in the Bottom 10.

However, a Bottom 10-record six teams won last week. We turn to Mr. Charles to give advice to Buffalo, Temple, Purdue, Kentucky, Ball State and Penn State: "Hit the road, Jack and don't you come back no more, no more, no more, no more."

As for the coveted No. 5 position, Wisconsin garnered some attention for its blowout loss and Minnesota's late-season collapse had some support, but Syracuse's loss to Bottom 10 regular Temple just couldn't be ignored. The Orange can be proud to hold the distinction of being the Owls' lone Big East win this year. Since Temple faces Boston College this week, that win over the 'Cuse will likely be the last Big East win ever for the Owls.

This week's Bottom 10 Pillow Fight between UNLV and San Diego State is also a farewell to retiring Rebels coach John Robinson.

With apologies to Steve Harvey, here's this week's Bottom 10:

 RankTeam2004 Rec.Comment
1.Central Florida0-10"Lonely Avenue." The Golden Knights remain Division I-A's only winless team and have held the Bottom 10 top spot for six weeks.
2.Western Michigan1-9"Hard Times." The Broncos, who are 0-7 in the MAC, fired coach Gary Darnell on Sunday.
3.Washington1-9"A Fool For You." We liked the Huskies when they held the coveted No. 5 spot, but love the nation's only other one-win team at No. 3.
4.Tulsa2-8"Say No More." The Golden Hurricanes lost to SMU two weeks ago.
5.Syracuse5-5"Talkin' About You." Losing to Temple, which has endured 13 straight losing seasons and was kicked out of the Big East, will get people talking.
6.UNLV2-8"That's Enough." John Robinson couldn't hit the jackpot in Veagas and will walk the sidelines for the last time when the Rebels face San Diego State on Saturday.
7.East Carolina2-7"Here We Go Again." We thought the Pirates had the ship righted, but back-to-back losses have carried them home.
8.Utah State2-8"Nobody Cares." With Urban Meyer and the Utes dominating the state, does anyone know the Aggies are struggling?
9.Vanderbilt2-8"Born To Lose." The Commodores, who lost to lowly Kentucky, haven't won an SEC road game in four years.
10.Central Michigan3-7"What'd I Say." Losing to a Bottom 10 team is pretty good way to make the list. Losing 36-6 to Buffalo will definitely get it done.

Waiting list: Arizona (2-8), Army (2-7), Idaho (3-8), Illinois (3-7), Indiana (3-7), Rice (3-7), San Diego State (2-7), San Jose State (2-7), sportsmanship by teams in the BCS hunt and the power supply at Wyoming's Memorial Stadium.
