TALLAHASSEE, Florida (Ticker) -- Sixth-ranked Virginia tries to
end a program-long funk in Tallahassee when it visits No. 7
Florida State on Saturday in a key Atlantic Coast Conference
matchup.
The Cavaliers (5-0, 2-0 ACC) are 0-6 all time here, losing by an
average of nearly 24 points. They are 0-22 all time on the
road against top-10 teams.
Virginia is 1-11 all time against Florida State, with the only
victory coming nine years ago in Charlottesville, 33-28. It was
the Seminoles' first ACC loss.
Dating to last season, the Cavaliers have won eight straight
games, including a 30-10 triumph over Clemson last Thursday.
Backup Alvin Pearman rushed for 104 yards and two touchdowns for
the Cavaliers, who ran for 239 yards and passed for 225.
Virginia ranks third nationally in scoring offense (42.4) and is
seventh in scoring defense (11.6).
The Seminoles (4-1, 2-1) stepped out of ACC play last week and
rallied to defeat Syracuse on the road, 17-13.
Leon Washington had 21 carries for a career-high 164 yards and
two touchdowns for Florida State, which limited the Orange to
just three points and 60 total yards after the break.
The Seminoles have won four in a row after a season-opening
overtime loss at Miami.
