ATLANTA (Ticker) -- No. 22 Virginia Tech hopes extra rest will not derail its momentum when it visits Georgia Tech in an Atlantic Coast Conference matchup on Thursday.
The Hokies (5-2, 2-1 ACC) have not played since a 62-0 rout of Division I-AA Florida A&M on October 16.
Bryan Randall completed just nine of his 14 passes but four went for touchdowns for Virginia Tech, which has won three straight games and five of six since a season-opening loss to top-ranked Southern California.
Cedric Humes had 16 carries for 107 yards and two scores for the Hokies, who scored 24 points in each of the first two quarters and rested their starters for much of the second half.
Georgia Tech (4-2, 3-2) has had an up-and-down season, opening with back-to-back wins, then dropping two in a row before responding with consecutive triumphs.
The Yellow Jackets also have been idle since October 16, when they routed lowly ACC rival Duke, 24-7.
P.J. Daniels ran 24 times for 116 yards and a touchdown for Georgia Tech, which outgained Duke, 327-146.
The teams only have met once previously, in 1990, when the Yellow Jackets posted a 6-3 triumph.
