EAST LANSING, Michigan (Ticker) -- No. 4 Wisconsin is looking
to do something it has never done in the 115-year history of the
program - go 10-0.
The Badgers, 9-0 for the third time in school history, close the
season with a pair of Big Ten Conference road games starting
Saturday at Michigan State.
Wisconsin (9-0, 6-0 Big Ten) leads the nation in scoring
defense, giving up just 9.1 points per game and is third in
total defense, allowing 246.9 yards per game.
The Badgers defense got some support from the offense last week
as quarterback John Stocco ran for two touchdowns and threw for
another in a dominating 38-14 victory over Minnesota. Wisconsin
opened a 31-0 lead over the Golden Gophers and had no trouble
reclaiming the Paul Bunyan Ax.
Michigan State (4-5, 3-3) has lost two straight, including a
32-19 setback to Ohio State. Damon Dowdell was 29-of-46 for 262
yards and a score but was intercepted three times.
The Spartans lead the series, 25-19, but Wisconsin has won two
in a row and seven of the last nine meetings. Last season, Jim
Sorgi threw five TD passes to Lee Evans in the Badgers' 56-21
victory.
