FRESNO, California (Ticker) -- Fresno State has not lost to San Jose State in 15 years and does not appear likely to this weekend.

The 21st-ranked Bulldogs aim for their 12th consecutive victory over the Spartans when they meet Saturday in a Western Athletic Conference contest.

Fresno State has not lost to San Jose State since a 42-7 road setback in 1990 and has not been beaten by the Spartans here since a 20-16 defeat in 1987.

The Bulldogs (7-1, 4-0 WAC) are tied atop the conference standings with Boise State and will host the Broncos just five days after this one.

Fresno State has won five straight games since a 37-34 loss at Oregon on September 17. Last Saturday, the Bulldogs posted a 27-13 triumph at Hawaii as Wendell Mathis ran for a career-high 229 yards and three touchdowns.

While the Bulldogs have won nine straight WAC games dating to last season, the Spartans (1-7, 0-5) have struggled mightily, losing all of their contests following a season-opening win over Division I-AA Eastern Washington.

San Jose State, which is coming off a 31-16 setback at Louisiana Tech, is allowing 455.8 yards and 35.5 points per game.

One of the few bright spots for the Spartans is Trestin George, who averages 28.7 yards per kick return, the 12th-best mark in the NCAA.

Fresno State coach Pat Hill was an assistant for San Jose State's Dick Tomey at Arizona in the 1980s.
