It's Tebow time for seventh-ranked Gators

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) -- Tim Tebow has spent most of his life following the Florida Gators.

He's been to home and road games. He's been in the bleachers and on the sidelines. He's been a huge fan and a prized recruit. Now, Tebow finally gets to be a player.

Tebow, the backup quarterback behind Chris Leak, will make his highly anticipated debut tomorrow night when the seventh-ranked Gators open the season against Southern Mississippi.

His first appearance may be as hyped as Steve Spurrier's return to Gainesville, the ten-year reunion of the 1996 national championship team or coach Urban Meyer's second season with Florida's spread-option offense.

Yep, it's Tebow time.

Hand-picked by Meyer to direct his spread-option offense, Tebow is arguably Florida's most renowned freshman since Emmitt Smith in 1987. He had a television documentary about him called "The Chosen One." He became Leak's backup the moment he arrived on campus in January. And he captivated Florida faithful with his passion for the game.

He has since impressed teammates with his leadership skills, work ethic and competitiveness.

Now, he finally gets to play.
