COLLEGE PARK, Maryland (Ticker) -- Maryland showed no mercy against The Citadel.

Josh Allen rushed for 136 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries as the Terrapins routed the Division I-AA Bulldogs, 61-0, for their first win of the season.

Coming off losses to Northern Illinois and Florida State, Maryland (1-2) put this one away early, scoring 24 points in the first quarter.

Included in the burst was a 75-yard punt return by Steve Suter that made it 21-0 with 5 1/2 left in the opening quarter.

Sammy Maldonado rushed for 66 yards and two touchdowns for Maryland, which matched its most lopsided win since a 74-13 rout of Missouri in 1964.

The Terrapins posted their highest point total since a 62-24 victory over Virginia in 1976.

Scott McBrien completed 12-of-20 passes for 178 yards for the Terrapins, who amassed 565 yards while holding The Citadel (1-2) to just 137.

Maryland ran 80 plays, compared to just 57 for the Bulldogs, and held a 28-7 edge in first downs.

The Citadel quarterback Willie Simmons endured a nightmarish night, completing just 3-of-20 passes for 47 yards and an interception.
