CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) -- With the focus on Steven Jackson's injured knee, quarterback Derek Anderson was able to take a week off from questions about his erratic arm.

It must have helped, as Anderson spent Saturday night finding his favorite receiver, James Newson.

Anderson connected with Newson nine times for 208 yards as Oregon State ended Boise State's 13-game winning streak with a 26-24 victory.

"He was back there just relaxing, being the Derek Anderson I know," Newson said. "I thought he did a great job back there."

Jackson, despite the injured knee, ran for 122 yards.

Anderson, whose shaky performance in the Beavers' first two games had some questioning his ability, threw for 408 yards and didn't throw an interception. Newson's 208 yards were the most for a Beaver since Robb Thomas' 230 against Akron in 1987. Newson's nine receptions moved him into first place on Oregon State's receptions list. The senior has 156 catches, passing Phil Ross, who had 153.

Ryan Dinwiddie was 19-of-36 for 334 yards for the Broncos (2-1), who missed a chance to take the lead with 7:32 left when Tyler Jones' 32-yard field-goal attempt sailed wide right.

The Beavers (3-1) followed with a clock-eating, 17-play drive. Jackson ran the ball six times and Dwight Wright ran five times as the Beavers ground their way down the field. On fourth down and about a yard at the Bronco 22, Anderson fumbled while attempting a quarterback sneak. The Beavers recovered in the backfield and it appeared that Boise State would get the ball with 1:50 to go. But Anderson was ruled to have lost the ball after his forward progress was stopped. The Beavers got their first down and ran out the clock.

"There is a reason (Boise State) has won 13 games in a row," said Beaver coach Mike Riley. "I don't care about the competition. They're a good team and we beat them and it was hard."

Oregon State held David Mikell, who entered the game as the nation's second-leading rusher, to 45 yards on 16 carries.

"I told our guys there is no moral victories," said Boise State coach Dan Hawkins. "A loss is a loss in Division I football."

Oregon State gained 562 total yards, and Kirk Yliniemi kicked four field goals. But the Beavers were penalized 14 times for 144 yards, often for personal fouls.

After falling behind 13-0, Boise State scored 17 second-quarter points and led 17-16 at the half. Tim Gilligan returned a punt 62 yards for the go-ahead touchdown with 1:19 left in the half.

Jason Lowe recovered a botched snap on a Boise State punt at the Broncos 28 to set up Yliniemi's 41-yard field goal that gave Oregon State a 19-17 lead in the third.

The Beavers opened the fourth quarter with a 48-yard pass from Anderson to Newson to the Broncos 11. Jackson ran for a touchdown on the next play to make it 26-17.

Dinwiddie led the Broncos back, orchestrating a nine-play, 79-yard drive that Mikell capped with a 3-yard touchdown run.

The Broncos are now 0-9 against the Pac-10.
