SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) -- Ryan Leadingham threw five of his six touchdown passes in the first half as Sacramento State defeated Idaho State 47-21 Saturday night.

Tyronne Gross added 240 yards rushing on 32 carries for the Hornets (2-2).

Leadingham, who completed 21 of 30 passes for 362 yards, varied his targets, throwing scoring strikes to four receivers before halftime.

The Hornets scored on three of their first four drives and led 26-0 midway through the second quarter. At halftime they led 33-14.

Sacramento State's longest scoring play came three plays into the third quarter. Leadingham rolled to his right and tossed a short pass to Fred Amey, who eluded two defenders and raced 58 yards for his second score of the game, giving the Hornets a 40-14 lead.

Idaho State (2-2) didn't generate much offense until backup quarterback Mark Hetherington replaced Roman Ybarra in the second quarter. Hetherington led the Bengals to consecutive scoring drives, the second ending with his 17-yard scoring pass to Brett Fowler.

Leadingham's six touchdown passes broke the school record of four, which he previously shared with five other players.
