YPSILANTI, Michigan (Ticker) -- This time, Maryland found a
way to defeat a Mid-American Conference opponent.
Scott McBrien threw for a season-high 252 yards as the Terrapins
scored the final 21 points for a 37-13 victory over Eastern
Maryland (3-2) was ranked 14th in the country before losing its
season opener at Northern Illinois on August 28 in overtime,
20-13. The Terrapins were forced to make a second trip to a MAC
opponent this season thanks to prior contractual commitments
before coach Ralph Friedgen took over two years ago.
The Eagles (1-4), who suffered a 39-7 loss at Navy last week,
cut the deficit to 16-13 on Andrew Wellock's 25-yard field goal
with just under 11 minutes to go in the third quarter.
The Terrapins answered on Josh Allen's eight-yard TD run with
5:42 to go in the third, his second of the game.
A 60-yard pass from McBrien to Derrick Fenner set up McBrien's
eight-yard touchdown run on the first play of the fourth
quarter. McBrien capped the scoring with a 14-yard TD pass to
Dan Melendez on the Terrapins' next series.
Allen carried 18 times for 71 yards. Bruce Perry, who has
battled injuries throughout the year, managed just 38 yards on
The Terrapins were the first school from the Bowl Championship
Series to visit Eastern Michigan's Rynearson Stadium. The game
drew 19,628 fans.
