BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) -- Cortland Finnegan had two interceptions,
returning one 56 yards for a touchdown, as Samford pulled away late
in a 35-6 win over Murray State on Saturday.
Fred Gilliam added 73 yards rushing and Efrem Hill had a 26-yard
TD among his 89 yards receiving for the Bulldogs (4-2, 2-1 Ohio
Murray State (2-5, 1-2) got off to a 3-0 lead on a 43-yard field
goal by Jesse Ohliger, but two minutes later the Racers found
themselves backed up inside their own 5-yard line. Ulysses Odoms
bobbled a pitch, and Darold Williams led a host of Bulldogs in
swarming Odoms in the end zone for a safety.
D.J. Stancil added a 3-yard TD run, though a 2-point conversion
failed. Then midway through the second quarter, Ray Nelson threw a
26-yard TD to Hill and Samford led 15-3 at the half.
The teams traded field goals in the third quarter before
Finnegan picked off a Stephen Hatchell pass and returned it 56
yards for a score.
Backup quarterback Kevin Tooker sneaked in from 1 yard out to
make it 32-6, and Ty Neil added his second field goal for the final

Hatchell led the Racers with 189 yards on 20-of-36 passing.
