POCATELLO, Idaho (AP) -- Mark Hetherington threw for 323 yards
and three touchdowns to lead Idaho State past Portland State 30-20
Nick Beverly added 135 rushing yards for the Bengals (6-3, 4-2
Big Sky), who also got three field goals from Jeremy Hershey.
Idaho State had 24 first downs to 12 for Portland State (4-5,
1-4) and outgained the Vikings 175-74 in rushing yards.
Portland State took an early 7-0 lead on a 82 yard touchdown
pass from Joe Wiser to Ryan Brown but never led again. Idaho State
scored the next 17 points to take control, with Hetherington
throwing touchdown passes of 5 yards to Sale' Key and 22 yards to
Hetherington, who completed 30 of 44 passes with two
interceptiosn, added a 26-yard touchdown pass to Akilah Lacey in
the second half.
The Vikings hurt themselves with key penalties. One overturned
an interception and another caused an 87- yard interception return
to be changed to a 9-yard return because of an illegal block.
Portland State also converted just three of 14 third-down attempts.
