LAS VEGAS (AP) -- Quarterback Adam Hall threw a touchdown pass in
the first quarter to lead San Diego State past UNLV 7-0 in Mountain
West Conference play Saturday.
Hall, who completed 10 of 22 passes for 89 yards in the game,
found Robert Ortiz in the left corner of the end zone in the first
quarter on a three-play drive that lasted 39 seconds. The Aztecs
gained possession after Josh Dean intercepted UNLV quarterback Kurt
It marked the first time the Rebels were shutout since 1999
against BYU at home, 29-0, and the first time the Aztecs did not
allow a point since a 34-0 win at Wyoming in 2000.
The Aztecs (5-5, 2-3) out-rushed the Rebels (5-5, 1-4) 151 yards
to 31 as running back Lynell Hamilton ran for 94 yards on 24
Nantkes, who played with a strained left groin, struggled all
afternoon and was intercepted three times while completing 14-of-29
for 137 yards.
He was replaced by Shane Steichen with 6:53 left in the second
quarter, but Nantkes returned to start the third quarter and
finished the game.
The Rebels had a chance to tie with 5:51 left in the game, but
came up short after two incomplete passes at the Aztec 3.
