DALLAS (Ticker) -- Kyle Herm threw a pair of long touchdown
passes to Ben Wiggins as Rice kept Southern Methodist winless
with a 41-20 Western Athletic Conference rout.
Rice (3-8, 3-3 WAC) usually relies on its running attack, but
Herm came up with a pair of big pass plays. He tossed an 82-yard
touchdown to Wiggins in the first quarter and the pair hooked
up again for a 43-yard TD for a 17-0 advantage early in the
Fullback Robbie Beck added a pair of second-half scores and
rushed nine times for 67 yards. Herm contributed a five-yard TD
run in the third quarter.
The Mustangs (0-11, 0-8) remained one of two winless teams in
Division I-A along with Army. They close the season on November
29 against unbeaten Texas Christian.
Herm coompleted 4-of-7 passes for 157 yards and Wiggins had
three catches for a career-high 168 yards.
SMU's Chris Phillips completed 16-of-24 passes for 175 yards and
two touchdowns. Phillips made his fourth straight start for the
