DALLAS (Ticker) -- Kyle Herm threw a pair of long touchdown passes to Ben Wiggins as Rice kept Southern Methodist winless with a 41-20 Western Athletic Conference rout.

Rice (3-8, 3-3 WAC) usually relies on its running attack, but Herm came up with a pair of big pass plays. He tossed an 82-yard touchdown to Wiggins in the first quarter and the pair hooked up again for a 43-yard TD for a 17-0 advantage early in the second period.

Fullback Robbie Beck added a pair of second-half scores and rushed nine times for 67 yards. Herm contributed a five-yard TD run in the third quarter.

The Mustangs (0-11, 0-8) remained one of two winless teams in Division I-A along with Army. They close the season on November 29 against unbeaten Texas Christian.

Herm coompleted 4-of-7 passes for 157 yards and Wiggins had three catches for a career-high 168 yards.

SMU's Chris Phillips completed 16-of-24 passes for 175 yards and two touchdowns. Phillips made his fourth straight start for the Mustangs.
