San Diego State 24, Air Force 3

SAN DIEGO (AP) -- Hubert Caliste, a reserve defensive back playing for the first time as a wide receiver, threw a 25-yard touchdown pass and Michael Franklin rushed for 122 yards and a touchdown, lifting San Diego State to a 24-3 victory over Air Force Saturday night.

Caliste threw his touchdown pass after taking a pass behind the line of scrimmage from quarterback Matt Dlugolecki, breaking a 3-3 tie in the third quarter.

Franklin, who had 29 carries, padded the lead for San Diego State (6-6, 3-4 Mountain West) when he ran untouched 17 yards straight up the middle early in the fourth quarter for a 17-3 lead.

Caliste, who played quarterback as a high school senior, hit Devin Pitts in stride as the receiver was 15 yards behind the nearest defender.

Marviel Underwood had a 74-yard interception return for a touchdown late in the fourth quarter and J.C. Mejia kicked a 34-yard field goal, his 18th, that tied the Aztecs' single-season record.

Air Force (7-5, 3-3 MWC) gained just 286 yards in total offense as the Falcons failed to score a touchdown for the first time in 35 games since losing to national champion Oklahoma 44-3 in the 2001 season opener.

Joey Ashcroft kicked a 40-yard field goal as time expired in the first half for Air Force's only points.
