Ohio 42, VMI 14

ATHENS, Ohio (AP) -- Ryan Hawk passed for 223 yards and three
touchdowns, and Kalvin McRae ran for 100 yards and scored twice to
lead Ohio over VMI 42-14 Saturday night in the season opener for
both teams.

Justin Roush added 130 yards rushing for the Bobcats, who also
got two defensive touchdowns. T.J. Wright scored on a 41-yard
interception return and Tyler Russ returned a fumble 19 yards for a

VMI's Jonathan Wilson completed 22 of 38 passes for 216 yards
and a touchdown to Zohn Burden, who caught 10 balls for 100 yards.

Ohio took a 7-0 lead in the first quarter on Wright's
interception return. Hawk, who finished 13-of-24, threw
second-quarter touchdown passes of 4 yards to Ryan Antle and 25
yards to Rudy Sylvan, making it 21-0.

VMI closed to 21-7 when Burden caught a 30-yard TD pass from
Wilson with 6:20 remaining in the second, but Ohio scored the next
three touchdowns to break it open.

McRae had a 9-yard TD run and Russ scored on his fumble
recovery, then McRae caught an 18-yard TD pass from Hawk to put the
Bobcats ahead 42-7 early in the fourth quarter.

Burden had a 6-yard touchdown catch in the fourth quarter for
VMI, which managed just 67 yards rushing on 29 carries.

Ohio had 230 yards rushing and 229 passing.
