DAVIS, Calif. (AP) -- Jon Grant threw four touchdown passes and UC Davis racked up 443 total yards in a 52-0 victory over South Dakota State on Saturday night.

The Division I-AA teams opened their first season in the newly constructed Great West Football Conference with an overwhelming offensive performance by the Aggies.

UC Davis scored on all four possessions in the first quarter for a 24-0 lead, and cornerback Andy Sullivan returned a 58-yard interception for a score on the first play of the second quarter.

O.J. Swanigan scored his second touchdown on a 12-yard shovel pass from Grant to give UC Davis a 38-0 lead. It was the biggest halftime lead for the Aggies since 2002 against Humboldt State.

Grant, who appeared in four games last season as a reserve, was 16-of-17 for 201 yards and three touchdowns in the first half. The Aggies' defense held the Jackrabbits to 40 yards in the first half.

Grant, who left midway through the third quarter, was 20-of-24 for 278 yards.

The UC Davis defense stopped the Jackrabbits near the goal line on fourth-and-2 with 57 seconds left in the game to preserve the shutout.
