DAVIS, Calif. (AP) -- O.J. Swanigan rushed for 79 yards and two touchdowns, and UC Davis scored 28 unanswered points in the second half to beat Sacramento State 58-23 Saturday night in the 51st Causeway Classic.
Jon Grant was 18-of-22 for 246 yards before leaving late in the third quarter with cramps in his left leg. Backup Matt Engle led two late scoring drives, and Jesse Oliva returned a punt 68 yards for a score in the fourth quarter.
The Aggies (3-0) got their fifth straight victory in the rivalry -- their longest streak since winning 18 straight against Sacramento State from 1970-87.
Ryan Mole rushed for 132 yards and a score for the Hornets (1-2), who dropped their eighth straight road game. Ryan Leadingham was 15-of-25 for 224 yards, throwing two interceptions.
Sacramento State took an early 9-7 lead on a safety and Mole's 63-yard scoring run, but Ryan Ramey's 98-yard kickoff return set up Swanigan's 2-yard TD run 20 seconds before halftime, giving UC Davis a 30-23 lead.
Engle scored on a 1-yard run in the third quarter. In the fourth, Kevin Freeman and Jason Yaklich caught scoring passes after Oliva's TD return.
The Aggies finished with 530 total yards while holding Sacramento State to 260.
