LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) -- With one burst through the line, one sprint down the field, Taurean Henderson made up for everything his team had done wrong.

Four interceptions. A muffed fair catch on a punt. Letting a moonlighting defensive back throw one touchdown pass and catch another.

Henderson ran for 169 yards and two touchdowns, including a 70-yard score on a draw play in the final minutes, and Texas Tech came back from a 25-point first-half deficit to beat Kansas 31-30 on Saturday.

"Every time I touch the ball, I think I'm going to take it to the house," Henderson said. "But I was actually surprised by the call."

So was quarterback Sonny Cumbie, given coach Mike Leach's reputation for using the pass to establish the pass.

"I did a little bit of a double-take," Cumbie said. "I was like, 'Are you sure about that?' No, what I really said was, 'Yes, sir."

Texas Tech (3-1, 1-0 Big 12) scored 26 unanswered points against the Jayhawks (2-2, 1-1), who did not score after halftime.

"I'm here for 60 minutes, no matter what," Leach said. "Everyone here is figuring on staying for the entire game. We've got nowhere else to go."

Henderson's game-breaking run with 2½ minutes remaining came three plays after Kansas' Scott Webb hit the left upright on a 39-yard field goal attempt.

"I told him to kick it between the poles," coach Mark Mangino said. "Obviously, the advice didn't take."

Webb also missed from 45 yards earlier in the fourth quarter -- a week after Johnny Beck missed a 43-yard attempt late in the Jayhawks' 20-17 loss to Northwestern.

"I feel like we've always got our kickers' backs," said wide receiver Brandon Rideau, who had a second-quarter touchdown catch. "It is really on the offense to prevent 40- or 50-yard field goals."

Two plays after Henderson's long run, Jabari Smith sealed the Red Raiders' win with the second of their three interceptions.

Cumbie threw all four of the interceptions Texas Tech gave up, but he also had two touchdown passes. He finished 28-for-52 for 356 yards with scoring passes to Trey Haverty and Jarrett Hicks. The receiving duo had eight catches each for the Red Raiders -- Haverty for 143 yards and Hicks for 131.

Texas Tech's offensive outburst came a week after scoring 56 straight in a 70-35 win over TCU, and it gave the Raiders the biggest comeback ever against the Jayhawks. Colorado came back from a 19-0 deficit in the fourth quarter for a 20-19 victory in 1961.

"We put 30 points on the board. Obviously, we were doing the things we needed to do," Barmann said. "But you can't go out and score 30 one half and zero the next half and be satisfied."

After Charles Gordon -- a Jayhawks cornerback -- caught a 20-yard touchdown pass from Adam Barmann, Kansas led 30-5 with 48 seconds left in the second quarter. Gordon also threw a touchdown pass on a trick play.

The Red Raiders needed only 33 seconds to drive 80 yards and score on Cumbie's 32-yard pass to Haverty. After a failed 2-point attempt, Texas Tech entered halftime trailing 30-11.

Chad Johnson set the tone for the second half on the Jayhawks' first possession, intercepting Barmann's pass and returning it 56 yards to Kansas' 12.

Two plays later, Henderson's 1-yard TD run got the Red Raiders within 30-18, and Cumbie's 27-yard scoring pass to Hicks late in the third made it 30-24 after a botched conversion kick.

The Red Raiders went up 2-0 on Kansas' first possession, when Kevin Kane's snap went through punter Kyle Tucker's legs and out the back of the end zone for a safety.

But Kansas responded when Rodney Harris intercepted a pass on Texas Tech's ensuing position, and Barmann hooked up with John Randle on a 36-yard screen pass one play later to put the Jayhawks up 7-2.

Randle's 1-yard run later in the first made it 14-2. Then, after Texas Tech's Alex Trlica and Webb traded field goals, Gordon took a pitch from Barmann and found Rideau alone at the goal line for a 24-5 lead.

Webb's field goal came after Clark McCracken recovered Danny Amendola's muff at Texas Tech's 21.
