Bowling Green 70, Temple 16

PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Omar Jacobs threw for a career-high 367 yards and four touchdowns Saturday, leading Bowling Green to a 70-16 rout of Temple.

P.J. Pope scored four touchdowns and rushed for 106 yards on eight carries. He scored on runs of 2, 77 and 7 yards and caught a 28-yard scoring pass from Jacobs, who was 21 of 26.

Bowling Green had its highest point total since a 72-21 win over Ohio University in 2002, and the Falcons, who led by 33 points at the break, were one point short of tying a school record for points in the first half.

Temple, which has lost five of seven games to Bowling Green, was handed its most lopsided loss since a 55-0 setback to Miami on Dec. 4, 1999.

Steve Sanders caught five passes for a career-high 103 yards and a touchdown for the Falcons (2-2), who rebounded from a loss to Northern Illinois in their Mid-American Conference opener last week. Charles Sharon caught five passes for 103 yards and a touchdown.

Bowling Green had a school record 442 yards of total offense in the first half and led 42-9 at the break. Jacobs threw for 306 yards and four touchdowns in the first half.

After throwing an interception that led to a Temple field goal less than a minute into the game, Jacobs completed 16 consecutive passes for 242 yards and led the Falcons on four straight scoring drives for a 28-9 lead.

The 6-foot-4 sophomore had his consecutive completion streak stopped late in the second quarter, but hit Cole Magner with a 40-yard scoring pass down the middle to give the Falcons a 35-9 lead with 3:55 left in the first half.

Pope broke loose at the line on the first play of the Falcons' next possession and bounced outside for a long scoring run down the right sideline, giving Bowling Green a 33-point halftime lead.

Pope scored his fourth touchdown in the third quarter. B.J. Lane and Jason Washington also scored, pushing the advantage to 63-9. Dan Macon completed Bowling Green's scoring when he crashed into the end zone on a fourth-down play.

Tim Brown rushed for a touchdown for Temple (1-4, 0-0), which opens Big East Conference play next week against Pittsburgh. The Owls have lost 13 of 15 games since the start of last season.

Mike McGann, splitting time at quarterback with Walter Washington, threw a 56-yard touchdown pass to Travis Shelton in the fourth quarter.
