DOVER, Del. (AP) -- Bryan Botts passed for 239 yards and two
touchdowns to lead Delaware State to a 28-23 win against Hampton on
Delaware State (1-4, 1-0 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) also
had two fourth-quarter stands by its defense.
Botts completed 12 of 22 passes, including a 27-yard touchdown
to Thomas Bolden and a 28-yard touchdown to Shaheer McBride.
Bolden had six catches for 109 yards, while McBride had three
receptions for 66 yards.
Delaware State got on the board first when halfback Afumiya
Mcfadden scored on a 5-yard run in the first quarter to cap off a
five-play 59-yard drive.
The Hornets lead 14-0 after Derrick Singleton returned a blocked
punt 13 yards for a touchdown.
Hampton (4-1, 2-1) scored on a 2-yard run by Ardell Daniels.
Delaware State led 14-10 at the half.
Hampton was within five points in the fourth quarter when
Delaware State turned the ball over twice on fumbles.
That gave Hampton two possessions inside the Delaware 35-yard
line, but the Hornets held them each time.
Delaware State defensive back Kofi Amoah knocked away a pass
intended for Dereck Faulkner with 19 seconds left to play.
