TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) -- Bruce Gradkowski tied his own school record
with six touchdown passes, setting another mark with a 96-yard
completion to Kenny Higgins, to lead Toledo to a 52-14 victory over
Ball State on Saturday night.
Gradkowski completed 26 of 34 passes for 455 yards -- six fewer
than his mark set a year ago against Pittsburgh.
He hit on scoring passes covering 60, 96 and 8 yards to Higgins,
36 and 14 yards to Terrance Hudson and 17 yards to Scooter
Toledo (3-2, 2-0 Mid-American Conference) amassed 645 yards of
Cole Stinson connected on 17 of 29 passes for 213 yards and one
touchdown for Ball State (1-4, 1-1), which trailed 21-0 after a
quarter due to three Gradkowski TD throws.
The six touchdown passes was one short of the MAC record set by
Kent State's Jose Davis against Central Michigan in 1997.
The Rockets' Quinton Broussard rushed 17 times for 136 yards,
including a 2-yard touchdown run.
Higgins finished with 10 catches for 233 yards, also a Toledo
Gradkowski's long touchdown pass to Higgins -- on first down at
the Rockets' 4-yard line -- snapped the previous school mark of 92
yards by Jerry Evans from Mark Melfi against Central Michigan in
Ryan Patrick returned a Toledo fumble 40 yards for a Cardinals
touchdown. Stinson hit Ryan Hahaj on a 5-yard scoring pass for Ball
State's other touchdown.
