Lafayette 35, Columbia 14

NEW YORK (AP) -- Brad Maurer threw two touchdown passes and ran for another score, and Joe McCourt ran for 173 yards, scored once and passing for a TD as Lafayette rolled to a 35-14 victory over winless Columbia on Saturday.

Maurer threw 16 yards to Brandon Stanford in the first quarter and 11 yards to Travis Hutson in the second to help give Lafayette (4-2) a 21-0 halftime lead.

McCourt's 3-yard run closed out the first-half scoring, and he threw a 28-yard touchdown pass to Justin Lauver in the third quarter.

Lafayette converted a Columbia fumble on a punt return for the game's first score when Bryan Kazimierowski recovered Brandon Bowser's drop at the 17 and the Leopards scored two plays later.

McCourt ran for a yard and then Maurer threw to Stanford just 1:46 into the game.

Each team scored twice in the third quarter, with Maurer running 63 yards on a scramble and McCourt throwing his scoring pass to Lauver.

Columbia (0-4) pulled to 28-14 in the third quarter behind the passing of Jeff Otis, who was 6-of-8 in the quarter, including scoring passes to Bowser for 24 yards and Gordon Radlein for 7.

Maurer was 12-for-14 for 101 yards for the Leopards.

After Otis's pass to Bowser made it 21-7, Maurer scrambled to avoid a sack and sprinted down the left side for 63 yards to make it 28-7.

Columbia's second touchdown was followed by McCourt's 28-yard pass to Lauver with 2:55 left in the third quarter.

Otis finished with 296 yards passing on 29 completions in 43 attempts.
