NEW YORK (AP) -- Brad Maurer threw two touchdown passes and ran
for another score, and Joe McCourt ran for 173 yards, scored once
and passing for a TD as Lafayette rolled to a 35-14 victory over
winless Columbia on Saturday.
Maurer threw 16 yards to Brandon Stanford in the first quarter
and 11 yards to Travis Hutson in the second to help give Lafayette
(4-2) a 21-0 halftime lead.
McCourt's 3-yard run closed out the first-half scoring, and he
threw a 28-yard touchdown pass to Justin Lauver in the third
Lafayette converted a Columbia fumble on a punt return for the
game's first score when Bryan Kazimierowski recovered Brandon
Bowser's drop at the 17 and the Leopards scored two plays later.
McCourt ran for a yard and then Maurer threw to Stanford just
1:46 into the game.
Each team scored twice in the third quarter, with Maurer running
63 yards on a scramble and McCourt throwing his scoring pass to
Columbia (0-4) pulled to 28-14 in the third quarter behind the
passing of Jeff Otis, who was 6-of-8 in the quarter, including
scoring passes to Bowser for 24 yards and Gordon Radlein for 7.
Maurer was 12-for-14 for 101 yards for the Leopards.
After Otis's pass to Bowser made it 21-7, Maurer scrambled to
avoid a sack and sprinted down the left side for 63 yards to make
Columbia's second touchdown was followed by McCourt's 28-yard
pass to Lauver with 2:55 left in the third quarter.
