ATHENS, Ohio (AP) -- Marshall's Ian O'Connor made three field
goals, out-kicking Brooks Rossman, whose miss on a 32-yarder with
25 seconds left allowed the Thundering Herd to hold onto a 16-13
win over Ohio on Saturday.
Rob Stover recovered quarterback Stan Hill's fumble with 2:02
left, giving Ohio the ball on the Marshall 17. Three plays later
Rossman missed his first attempt of the day.
O'Connor was 3-for-3 including a 52-yarder in the first quarter.
Jonathan Goddard intercepted Ohio's Ryan Hawk and returned it 23
yards to make it 10-3 late in the first half.
Marshall (2-3, 2-0 Mid-American Conference) extended its lead to
13-6 on O'Connor's 20-yard field goal, capping a 64-yard drive in
the third quarter. He hit a 42-yarder later in the period.
Stover intercepted Hill in the fourth quarter to set up the
Bobcats' only touchdown. Austen Everson connected with Rudy Sylvan
on 17-yard pass with 9:02 left.
Marshall had eight sacks, led by Goddard, who had 2½. He also
blocked a punt.
Ohio (3-3, 1-2) was coming off a win against Kentucky, its first
defeat of a major-conference team since 2000.
