HAMPTON, Va. (AP) -- Ardell Daniels rushed for 137 yards and
scored two touchdowns and Hampton dominated in every phase in a
58-10 victory against Norfolk State on Saturday.
The Pirates (6-1, 3-1 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) gained
560 yards to just 280 for the Spartans and scored the first 30
points in the Battle of the Bay Classic.
Norfolk State (1-5, 1-3) finished with a slight edge on one
category -- penalties. The Spartans drew 14 flags for 146 yards in
losses, the Pirates' 14 for 140 yards.
Daniels caught a 48-yard pass from Princeton Shepherd for the
first score of the game and added a 6-yard run to make it 27-0.
Alonzo Coleman added 105 yards and a touchdown and Jerome Mathis
scored on a 68-yard run. The Pirates finished with 438 rushing
Shepherd was 8-for-16 for 122 yards with one interception. He
also threw an 18-yard scoring pass to Marquay McDaniel, and
McDaniel also scored on a 48-yard punt return.
