HAMMOND, La. (AP) -- Martin Hankins threw for 431 yards and five touchdowns and Felton Huggins had 195 yards on 13 catches as Southeastern Louisiana beat Mercyhurst College 58-14 on Saturday night.

Ray Perkins rushed for 168 yards on 18 carries as Southeastern (5-2) piled up 685 yards total offense on 38 first downs.

Hankins, the Division I-AA leader in passing yards, threw touchdown passes of 27, 13 and 28 yards to Huggins. Hankins also connected with Byron Ross on a 24-yard strike and found Perkins behind the Mercyhurst defense for a 42-yard touchdown before being relieved by Trey Willie and Chase Holbrook.

Willie found Robbie Scates on an 11-yard touchdown pass that put Southeastern ahead 58-14 with 7:20 left in the game.

Mercyhurst, a Division II school, led 3-0 on a 30-yard field goal by Phil Scanlon with 2:59 left in the first quarter before Southeastern went ahead for good on Hankins' 27-yard pass to Huggins in the final minute of the first quarter.

Southeastern increased its lead to 23-6 at halftime and scored on its first possession of the second half when Hankins connected with Huggins on a 28-yard strike that capped a three-play, 65-yard drive.

Justin Adams scored on a 2-yard run for the Lakers (3-5) on their next possession and Adams ran in the 2-point conversion that cut the lead to 30-14.

But Southeastern scored the next four touchdowns as Ross caught his first career touchdown from Hankins. Perkins scored a pair of touchdowns -- including a 41-yard sprint after Marvin Jones picked off a Mitch Phyllis pass at the Mercyhurst 41.

The Lions held Mercyhurst to 216 yards total offense as Jones tallied 12 tackles and a sack.
